Indigo Girls Concert
Elliot and I went to see the Indigo Girls perform last night. It was really, really good.
Here's a video of one of their more popular songs, Closer to Fine:
The opening act was a singer named Brandi Carlile. We'd never heard of her before, but we really enjoyed her performance, too. Here's a video of one of her songs, called Closer to You:

The License Plate Game
Unfortunately, none of the pictures that Elliot and I took while we were on vacation right after Christmas saved properly to our camera's memory card. I'm so disappointed. :(
We stayed in Louisiana, but also traveled to Texas and Arkansas. It was a short trip, but we had a lot of fun. Elliot had never been to Texas or Arkansas before, and I had never been to Arkansas.
We drove there and back for our trip, and on the way we kept track of how many different states' license plates we saw. We counted 31 different states! Here's the list: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Texas Reception Pictures |
... Mary and I had our final wedding reception including many of her extended family. It was held at the Excelsior House Hotel in Jefferson, TX. Many other great people have visited this hotel such as Ulysses S. Grant, Oscar Wilde, Rutheford B. Hayes and "Lady Bird" Johnson. Sure those guys were good at some things maybe even important things but we've got something they didn't have: digital cameras! (Or at least digital versions of real pictures as is the case with the photo album linked above.) Consider us the Rutheford B. Hayeses of taking pictures of meaningful events from our own life. Actually all these pictures were taken by Mary's Aunt Liz. Our camera sort of broke but is fine now. So consider her the Rutheford B Hayes of...

Way back in 2007...
... Elliot and I went to a 10 year high school reunion. I say "a" and not "our" because neither one of us actually graduated from Pine View, but both of us attended it at one point and it is, in fact, where we met. It was really great to see people that we haven't seen in over a decade, and also to see our friends that we're still in touch with but don't get to see as often as we'd like.
Here are a few pictures that our friend William took at the (two day) reunion and sent to us. We'll post the pictures that Elliot took later.

This is the table that we sat at for dinner on the first night of the reunion. You can see Elliot and me in the background, and those are our friends Laurie and John in the foreground. After dinner there was a trivia game and our table tied for first place!

Here's Elliot loading some of our pictures onto Andrew's computer.

This was taken the second day of the reunion, at the beach. I'm sitting with Randy and Maya.

Merry Christmas!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful winter holiday!

Whatever your faith, this time of year has probably brought you closer (physically or emotionally) to your family. In that spirit, I am sharing a picture of my great-grandmother, my father's mother's mother. Her name was Eliza. We don't know when this picture was taken, but it had to be some time before 1934.

Almost Done!!!
Now that I've finished taking all of my final exams for this fall (whew!), I only have one more semester of law school left. You can't even imagine how happy I am to be so close to finishing!

Elliot Has Inspired Me
I don't have any time to learn how to knit right now, but I was so jealous of Elliot's cool new hobby that I bought a Knifty Knitter loom set. Have you seen these? Here's what they look like:

You can make hats or pillows... or if you're really advanced then you can even make scarves and blankets, but I don't know that I'll ever get to that point. I'm working on a hat right now. The loom is really easy to use so I don't feel like I'm learning a new skill, the way Elliot has been. He's doing such a great job of learning how to knit, and I'm just twisting yarn around pegs. After 2 1/2 years in law school, I must admit that doing anything besides reading dusty old case books and writing pretend memos to pretend judges is a welcomed change of pace, though. I can't wait until graduation, just so I will have some time to be creative again.
So, if anyone needs a hat, let me know!!!

I have always wanted to learn how to knit so...
I decided to finally give it a try.

proof of concept; so far so good
Yes, the knitting POC is a success and now only more advanced projects can derive from it. I would like to make some slippers as my first project. We shall see if I can finish them in time for Christmas! Though this may turn out to be just another fad of mine at least it has taught me to create something even if so far it is only big enough to be a key chain.

Happy Holidays
I set up our Christmas tree today. With four cats, it can't be anything too elaborate or delicate. Elliot's mom gave us this fake tree last year, and it's perfect for our house. As you can see, Yoink is already enamored with it. He keeps waiting for me to leave the room, but I'm increasingly worried about what will happen when I do. Let's see if he can stay on Santa's "nice" list this year.

Happy Thanksgiving!
What am I thankful for this year? That I'm almost done with law school! I have just a little more than one semester left to go.
By this time next year, hopefully I'll have a job and a REAL Thanksgiving vacation. Not a "break" from school that is spent making outlines and PowerPoint presentations and reading case law. Next year, I'll be able to eat my Tofurky in peace.
Of course, I'm thankful that I've had the opportunity to go to law school in the first place. Don't think I'm ungrateful. I'm just really glad that my tour of duty is almost over. And with that said, I must get back to outlining my presentation on the intersection of Native American treaty rights and federal wildlife laws. *sigh*

Happy National Adoption Month!
November is National Adoption Month!
National Adoption Month celebrates family and brings about awareness that there are hundreds of thousands of children in foster homes waiting to be adopted.
Both my family and Elliot's family have been expanded and enriched through adoption. If you would like to learn more about National Adoption Month, click here or here.

My Birthday!
I celebrated (yet another) birthday on Friday, and I was fortunate enough to get to share it with my family. I'd like to thank them for making the road trip to my casa and for tolerating my cats for the weekend. Here are a few pictures:

Laura and (her boyfriend) Spencer at the duck pond on Saturday.

My parents, eagerly awaiting entry to the county fair Saturday night.

Elliot and Mark, apparently pretending to be comedy and tragedy theatre masks.

Sara and me at the fair. It was COLD!

At brunch Sunday morning. L-R: Spencer, Laura, Sara, Dad, Mom, me, Elliot.
