Clark loves to grab at Elise, but sometimes he doesn't want to let go:

Mommy's Valentine's Day present this year was having all four cats plus Elise and Clark laying together on the bed JUST long enough for me to take a quick picture... then all of the cats jumped up and the kids started screaming. But for 10 blissful seconds I was able to pretend that my house is an island of peace and tranquility.

Radar Gets Jealous

Lately, Radar can't stand for Applesauce to be sitting in my lap. If she sees him there, she comes over, licks his head, and then sits on top of both of us. I guess she's asserting her dominance with some sort of passive/aggressive cat behavior. Applesauce is the biggest pushover ever, so he just lets her sit on top of him. As long as they're not fighting, it's fine by me. Keeps my legs warm, anyway.

Robin 'hood

Our neighborhood has been full of robins lately. Today they descended on our yard. The cats were beside themselves...

Cat Depot

Three years ago, my sister and I adopted our lovely lady cat, Radar, from a no-kill shelter called Cat Depot.

In 2003, the people at Cat Depot rescued over 200 cats from another shelter that was mistreating them, and Radar was one of those cats. She had a very rough life living in a "shelter" where cats were being starved and dying from diseases. The people at Cat Depot have good hearts and their organization continues to take in cats that need to find forever homes.

I've decided to adopt Cat Depot as the charity that I will send donations to when I have a little bit of extra money to give to a charitable cause. They took good care of Radar and I want to make sure that other families can be as lucky as mine when they decide to bring a new cat into their home.

Cat Depot's website: http://www.catdepot.org/Info.htm

I have also put a link to the website on the right side of this blog page, below the list of labels.

My Two Front Teeth

(Radar at the vet's office)

When we adopted Radar, all but 4 of her teeth had already been pulled. She still had her canine teeth. But they begun to fall out one by one until she only had one tooth left-- her upper left canine. Well, at Radar's yearly checkup, the vet discovered that her last little tooth was infected.

Radar had surgery yesterday to remove her tooth and it went very well. She has stitches all in her mouth, poor little baby, but she seems to be doing just fine. The only strange thing is that her meow sounds funny now. It sounds like she's been smoking cigarettes. Or maybe she's just hoarse from crying while she was at the vet's office. Can cats get hoarse? I have a hoarse cat with no canines.

Radar

Meet Radar. She's lived with me for almost 3 years. My sister Sara and I adopted Radar from an animal shelter because Applesauce needed a companion when our cat Ruebella was diagnosed with cancer. Applesauce wanted to play and Ruebella was too tired entertain Applesauce. So we brought Radar home, and Applesauce and Radar have become great friends.

At first Radar didn't know much about living in a house since she had lived at a shelter for so long. She was afraid of the noises that the dishwasher made, and she didn't know how to push doors open with her nose. It took her a little while to get adjusted.

The best thing about Radar is that she has lots of love to give. She licks Applesauce like he's her little baby (even though he's twice as big as she is) and Radar loves to climb up into people's laps. We got very lucky when we picked her.
